Field Story: Natural Stone Boulder Wall and Green Giant Screening in West Chester, PA
Natural Stone Landscaping for Shed Platform in West Chester, PA
The back slope of this West Chester property left little usable space: uneven ground, poor drainage, and no flat area for storage or planting. The homeowners wanted to add a shed, but before that could happen, the slope needed to be stabilized and leveled the right way.
We built a natural stone boulder wall, about 70 feet long and four feet tall, to hold the grade and create a level surface. Each boulder was set carefully in place with compacted gravel backfill to ensure strength and stability for decades. Once the wall was complete, we regraded the upper section to form a flat pad for the future shed and surrounding lawn.
Along the length of the wall, we installed 17 Green Giant arborvitae, each about seven to eight feet tall. The trees will grow into a dense, living privacy screen, softening the stone and giving the property structure and seclusion year-round.
This West Chester project shows how a functional build can still look natural. The stone wall blends into the landscape, the plantings bring it to life, and the whole space now works as both a foundation for the shed and a lasting improvement to the property.
If you’re dealing with a tricky slope or need a space leveled for a structure, a natural stone boulder wall paired with hardy evergreens like Green Giants can create a lasting, low-maintenance solution.
